Channel 4 is teaming up with Mo Gilligan and Tiger Aspect Productions for a new entertainment format. The broadcaster has handed out a pilot order to Mo’s Town, hosted by Gilligan and produced by the Ripper Street indie, which will be a mix of comedy, sketches, music, celebrity guests and audience interaction.
Fresh off of his comedy tour, Mo Gilligan will harness the dynamism and joy of his critically acclaimed stand up shows to present a fast paced, irreverent and comical hour of fun and games which will also see appearances from all his well-known characters and a raft of VT sketches.
The not-for-broadcast pilot was commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Entertainment Ed Havard, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment Syeda Irtizaali, and Commissioning Editor for Factual Entertainment Becky Cadman, at Channel 4. The executive producers are Kate Edmunds and Richard Ackerman for Tiger Aspect
“I grew up watching Channel 4, walking past the building every day on my way to school”, Mo Gilligan said in a statement. “So it’s nuts to try and get my head around the fact that I’m now making a show with them. I’m so excited to bring what I do to the Channel!”
“We are delighted to have landed the extraordinary Mo Gilligan hot off the back of his sell out tour. His high-octane style, comedic instincts and total understanding of his audience is reflected brilliantly in the very inventive, very funny and thoroughly modern Mo’s Town”, commented Syeda Irtizaali. “He is an astonishing talent and we are thrilled to have him on the channel.”
While Kate Edmunds added: “Continuing Tiger Aspect’s history of collaborating with the best and brightest comedians, we’re over the moon to be working with the charismatic force of nature that is Mo Gilligan and opening the doors to ‘Mo’s Town’. Mo is a rare, unique talent so it makes total sense that he should find a home at Channel 4.”
