UKTV’s W channel is teaming up with U.S. cable network Pop TV for Flack, a six episode drama series set in the world of high-stakes public relations. Anna Paquin (True Blood) is attached to star in the co-production.
Flack follows an American PR executive living in London. Robyn (Paquin) is a sharp and witty publicity maven, who’s an expert at her craft but a complete self-saboteur when it comes to her personal life.
The project – which is being hailed as W’s first original drama series, after the previously announced Legion stalled – is created by Oliver Lansley and is set up at Hat Trick Productions. Production gets underway this Spring for a 2019 premiere.
Mark Talbot is the series producer, Jimmy Mulville, Helen Williams and Olover Lansley will serve as executive producers. Anna Paquin will also executive produce through her CASM banner alongside Stephen Moyer, Cerise Hallam Larkin and Mark Larkin with Justin Rosenblatt for Pop. Peter Cattaneo will serve as the lead director on the series.
“Oliver Lansley has written six of the best scripts I’ve ever read. He walks that fine line between intense character driven drama and exceptionally intelligent humour”, Anna Paquin said in a statement. “My character, Robyn, exists in a world where there are no moral absolutes and humour is used as a sharply executed defence mechanism to maintain the illusion of perpetual control. I am incredibly excited about tackling the creative complexities of Flack as an actress and for my company CASM’s collaboration with W and Pop.”
