Amazon Prime Video UK has agreed a deal with Legendary Television Distribution to secure the exclusive rights to Hulu’s 9/11 drama The Looming Tower.
The series will premiere on Amazon Prime Video UK on Thursday March 1st, when the first three episodes will be available to stream. New episodes will the continue to be made available to UK Prime subscribers every Thursday, less than 24 hours after the first unspool on Hulu state-side.
Based on Lawrence Wright’s book of the same name, The Looming Tower examines the chain of events that led to the September 11th terrorist attacks. Of particular focus is the rising threat of Bin Laden and the Al-Qaeda network throughout the 1990s and how the rivalry between the CIA and FBI may have inadvertently set the stage for the tragedy of 9/11 and the war in Iraq.
The project hails from Legendary Television and was written by Oscar nominee Dan Futterman (Capote, Judging Amy) and Alex Gibney (The New Yorker Presents) and stars Jeff Daniels, Tahar Rahim, Peter Sarsgaard, Bill Camp, Michael Stuhlbarg, Virginia Kull, Sullivan Jones, Wrenn Schmidt and Alec Baldwin. Futterman, Gibney and original author Lawrence Wright serve as the executive producers.
The Looming Tower emerged as something of a hot title before the LA Screenings last May and elicited early interest from a range of UK broadcasters. It joins a slate of exclusive first run acquisitions on Amazon Prime Video UK that also includes Into The Badlands, UnREAL, Preacher, Life In Pieces, StartUp, Lucifer, The Bold Type, Vikings, Casual, Taken, American Gods, Outlander, Animal Kingdom, Falling Water and Mr. Robot.
