History UK Acquires Knights Templar Drama Series 'Knightfall' – TVWise

History UK has acquired the UK rights to Knightfall, the period drama about the Knights Templar which is being produced for the U.S. History network. The series, which is distributed internationally by A+E Networks, is expected to premiere on this side of the pond in 2018.
Knightfall examines the Knights Templar, the secretive order who were at one time the best warriors in the world. The series tells the story of faith, loyalty and brotherhood that help sustain these warriors on the battlefield, and the dark events that would forever sear the infamous date of Friday the 13th into the world’s psyche.
The drama series, which was created by Don Handfield and Richard Rayner, is produced by A&E Studios and stars Tom Cullen, Bobby Schofield, Sabrina Bartlett, Julian Ovenden, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Padraic Delaney, Simon Merrells and Olivia Ross. Dominic Minghella is the showrunner and serves as an executive producer alongside Jeremy Renner, Don Handfield, Richard Rayner, Jeff Pinkner, Andre Nemec, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg.
Knightfall is the latest North American scripted period drama to find a home on History UK. The channel also holds the first window rights to Canadian World War II spy thriller X Company and the linear rights to Vikings (which is also produced for the U.S. History network. History UK has previously aired such dramas as Texas Rising, Sons Of Liberty, Gangland Undercover and The Bastard Executioner.
