ITV has released a first look at Line Of Duty star Martin Compston in the second season of their lavish period drama Victoria.
Compston, best known for playing Steve Arnott in the BBC police anti-corruption drama, will appear in the sixth episode of the second season as Dr. Robert Traill, a key campaigner in the petition to gain awareness and support for those suffering from the potato famine in Ireland during the 1840s.
Victoria follows the life of Queen Victoria. The drama series, which was created by Daisy Goodwin, is produced by Mammoth Screen and stars Jenna Coleman, Tom Hughes, Nigel Lindsay, Alex Jennings, Peter Bowles, David Oakes, Daniela Holtz, Catherine Flemming, Nell Hudson, Ferdinand Kingsley and Adrian Schiller. Dame Diana Rigg joins the cast this season as the Duchess of Bucchleuch.
The second season of Victoria picks up six weeks after season one and sees the Queen now as a working mother, learning to balance her responsibilities as both parent and monarch. However, with Prince Albert still struggling to find a role for himself there is an inevitable power struggle between husband and wife. As well as much drama in Buckingham Palace, the new season will include trips to France and Germany, touch on tragedy in Ireland and war in Afghanistan, and see Victoria and Albert discovering sanctuary in the Isle of Wight.
Victoria continues on Sundays at 9pm on ITV.
