The fifth season of FX’s cold war spy drama The Americans will receive its UK premiere on ITV Encore on Monday June 12th at 10pm, it has been announced.
Created by Joe Weisberg, The Americans revolves around two KGB sleeper agents in 1980s America. The drama series is produced by FX Productions & Fox 21 Television Studios and stars Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys, Holly Taylor, Keidrich Sellati and Noah Emmerich. The executive producers are Joe Weisberg, Joel Fields, Graham Yost, Chris Long, Stephen Schiff, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. FX has already ordered a sixth and final season.
In the show’s fifth season, after having revealed their true identities to their teenage daughter, Paige, Philip and Elizabeth’s ability to protect their cover and their family’s safety has become even more tenuous. Even as Paige pushes her parents to bring her deeper into their confidence, Philip and Elizabeth struggle to maintain normalcy in their family, especially around their son, Henry. Paige’s budding romance with Matthew, the son of their neighbor, FBI Agent Stan Beeman, further complicates matters since Stan – Philip’s best friend – remains the greatest threat to the Jennings’ safety.
