Channel 5 Sets UK Premiere Date For ‘Dirty Dancing’ Reboot

ABC’s Dirty Dancing reboot will receive its UK premiere on Channel 5 on Sunday June 11th at 6:25pm, it has been announced.

Described as a “fresh perspective” on the 1987 film, Dirty Dancing tells the story of Frances “Baby” Houseman, who, while spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle. Viewers will discover what happens to Baby and Johnny after that summer and more about the supporting characters from the original film. Modernized, updated versions of songs from the original film, teamed with well-known songs that are new to Dirty Dancing are weaved into the storytelling.

Dirty Dancing is produced by Lionsgate Television in association with Allison Shearmur Productions and stars Abigail Breslin, Debra Messing, Bruce Greenwood, Nicole Scherzinger, Colt Prattes, Sarah Hyland, Tony Roberts, Trevor Einhorn, Shane Harper, J. Quinton Johnson, Beau “Casper” Smart, Katey Sagal and Billy Dee Williams. Allison Shearmur and Adam Anders serve as executive producers. The teleplay was penned by Jessica Sharzer. Wayne Blair directed, and two-time Tony Award-winner Andy Blankenbuehler choreographed this new version of the film.
