ITV has renewed their cold case thriller series Unforgotten for a third season. Six episodes have been ordered for the show’s third season, which is set to enter production later this year for a 2017 premiere.
Unforgotten follows DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan as they work a cold-case and the ensuing fall-out of the investigation. Each season focuses on a new case and season three will see Cassie and Sunny delve into another intricate historical investigation, revealing a fresh web of long-buried secrets.
“I am so excited to be making a third series of Unforgotten”, said series creator Chris Lang. “To be able to bring back the exceptional team we had on series two (both in front of and behind the camera) and to be allowed to discover what the future holds for Cassie and Sunny as they tackle a new historical crime, is a real privilege.”
Lang will once again pen the scripts for the show’s third season, which was commissioned by ITV’s Head of Drama Poly Hill. Mainstreet Pictures are producing, with Chris Lang and Sally Haynes serving as the executive producers. Nicola Walker and Sanjeev Bhaskar will reprise their roles as Cassie Stuart and Sunny Khan. The renewal comes off of the back of strong ratings and critical reception for season two, which was widely praised by critics and managed an average consolidated audience of over 6 million with a 21% share.
“Unforgotten is a wonderfully rich piece of work, made with understated brilliance, and we’re delighted to commission a third series from Mainstreet Pictures, added Senior Drama Commissioner Victoria Fea, who will oversee production for ITV. “Chris Lang’s writing is perceptive, surprising and humane, and we have no doubt its fans will relish watching a new story unfold.”
