Starz’s Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods will receive its UK premiere on Amazon Prime Video UK on Monday May 1st, it has been announced.
New episodes will continue to be made available to Amazon Prime subscribers in the UK every Monday, less than 24 hours after they initially air on Starz in the United States.
American Gods tells the story of a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.
The ten episode series features an all-star cast that includes, amongst others, Ricky Whittle (The 100, Austenland) as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane (Deadwood, Pirates of the Caribbean) as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning (Sucker Punch, Legend) as Laura Moon, Gillian Anderson (The X-Files, The Fall) as Media, Pablo Schreiber (13 Hours, Orange Is the New Black) as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki (Aquarius, Masters of Sex) as Bilquis and Kristin Chenoweth (The West Wing, Pushing Daisies) as Easter.
American Gods, which is based on the novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman, is being produced for Starz by FremantleMedia North America. Bryan Fuller, whose commitment to American Gods forced him to pull out as the showrunner for CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery, penned the scripts for the series alongside Michael Green. The duo also serve as co-showrunners on the fantasy series and serve as executive producers alongside original author Neil Gaiman.
