Call The Midwife is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth, who was a district midwife in London’s east end during the 1950′s and stars Jenny Agutter, Pam Ferris, Judy Parfitt, Helen George, Bryony Hannah, Laura Main, Cliff Parisi, Charlotte Ritchie and Linda Bassett.

In this year’s Christmas Special, as Poplar celebrates a white Christmas, Nonnatus House receives an SOS call from Hope Clinic, a tiny mission hospital in South Africa that is understaffed, underfunded and threatened with closure. Transported to South Africa and facing some of their toughest challenges, the Nonnatus family digs deep to save Hope Clinic and make a difference to the lives of the people that use it. The eight episode sixth season is set to air on BBC One early next year. The BBC also recently renewed the series for a further three seasons, through to 2020.
