In news surprising no one, The Walking Dead returned to UK screens this week, revealing who fell victim to Negan, to record ratings.
Per FOX UK, who have been the first run broadcaster for the series since day one, the show’s seventh season premiere managed a total audience of 1.43 million viewers. That number – which counts the 2am simulcast, the regular 9pm broadcast and the 11:25pm encore – makes it the top rated season launch ever for the channel.
Notably, the 9pm broadcast, which by itself brought in just shy of 800K viewers, made FOX UK the top-rated Pay TV channel in the slot; outperforming numerous other multi-channels. All-in-all the season seven premiere is up some 59% on the figures for the season six premiere and is on track to deliver FOX UK its largest ever audience since the channel launched in 2004.
“Since its launch, this global phenomenon has continued to increase its audience year on year, however for last night’s episode to deliver the highest ratings of any series launch in the channels history is testament to The Walking Dead’s status as the number 1 TV show in the world,” Jeff Ford, UK MD, Fox Networks Group Europe & Africa said in a statement. “Along with the new season of American Horror Story, American Dad and the debut of the highly anticipated new X-Men spin off Legion in the new year, fans know that FOX UK is the home for the best entertainment, first”.
