EXCLUSIVE: Universal Channel has inked a deal with sister company NBCUniversal International Distribution to acquire CBS’ medical drama Pure Genius, TVWise has learned.
Pure Genius is described as a cutting-edge medical drama about a young Silicon Valley tech titan who enlists an exceptional veteran surgeon with a controversial past to run a state-of-the-art hospital with an ultramodern approach to medicine.
The drama series – which is set to premiere on Universal Channel in November – is a co-production between Universal Television & CBS Television Studios and stars Dermot Mulroney, Augustus Prew, Reshma Shetty, Brenda Song, Odette Annable, Aaron Jennings and Ward Horton. Pure Genius was created by Parenthood’s Jason Katims, who serves as an executive producer alongside Michelle Lee and David Semel.
This marks the second major deal that Universal Channel’s parent NBCUniversal International Networks UK has struck with one of the international distribution divisions of the major Hollywood Studios since the LA Screenings back in May. The company previously inked a deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution for hour-long drama The Exorcist for Syfy UK.
