NBCUniversal International Studios is adding to their executive ranks with the hire of Kudos executive Tariq Mirza.
In his new role as Vice President, Head of UK Scripted; Commercial, Legal & Business Affairs, Mirza will concentrate on NBCUniversal International Studios’ growing scripted business. He will report directly to Guy Sheppard, the studio’s Senior Vice-President of Legal & Business Affairs.
Based in London, NBCUniversal International Studios is the international production division of NBCU. The company operates in the UK and other overseas territories through their numerous prodiction labels, which include Carnival Films, Monkey, Chocolate Media, Lucky Giant and Australian-based Matchbox Pictures.
He joins from independent production company Kudos, where he has served as the indie’ top lawyer since 2013 – initially as Head of Legal & Business Affairs, before being promoted to Director of Commercial & Business Affairs in 2015. In those two roles he oversaw production labels Kudos, Lovely Day and Brown Eyed Boy.
Mirza started his career in the industry at the BBC and later trained and qualified as a solicitor with Olswang LLP. During his time in Olswang LLP’s Media Communications and Technology department, he acted for independent producers and studios on high-end film and television productions. He has also worked as a consultant to O’Melveny & Myers LLP’s London office.
