Freeform has renewed their original comedy series Young & Hungry – which was recently acquired for UK broadcast by Channel 4’s digi-net E4 – for a fifth season, TVWise has learned.
There is no official word on the size of the episode order for season five, though I hear it is for ten episodes. Production on the new season gets underway in Los Angeles next week for a 2017 premiere.
With a spin-off deep in development, there had been little question that the show would land a renewal, but Freeform has been conspicuously silent about the show’s future since the fourth season wrapped its run back in August. In its fourth season, the series ranked as the ad-supported cable comedy in the 18-34 demo and cable TV’s No. 1 series in its slot across several key demographics.
“‘Young & Hungry,’ was the number one cable comedy among Adults 18-34 during its most recent run, and saw double digit growth over the previous season in our key demographics,” said Karey Burke, Freeform’s Executive Vice-President of Programming & Development. “The series has been a powerhouse for us since launch and we are thrilled to bring it back for a fifth season.”
