Kevin James’ (The King Of Queens) new CBS comedy series is coming to the UK.
E4 has secured the exclusive UK broadcast rights to Kevin Can Wait after closing a deal with international distributor Sony Pictures Television, TVWise has learned.
The comedy series follows newly-retired police officer Kevin (James), who discovers he faces tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets. Erinn Hayes, Taylor Spreitler, Ryan Cartwright, Mary-Charles Jones, James DiGiacomo, Leonard Earl Howze, Gary Valentine and Lenny Venito also star
This marks the second deal in as many days between E4 parent Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television and comes after two agreed a UK deal yesterday for the NBC time-travel drama Timeless. Channel 4 also has a long-running pre-existing deal with Sony Pictures Television for Kevin James’ 1990s sitcom The King Of Queens.
With this pick up, Kevin Can Wait becomes the eleventh new series from the current 2016-2017 broadcast season to secure a UK deal. Other new series to have been picked up, by various UK broadcasters, include Star Trek: Discovery (Netflix UK), Lethal Weapon (ITV), Designated Survivor (Netflix UK), The Great Indoors (ITV2), Frequency (Netflix UK) This Is Us (Channel 4), Conviction (Sky Living), Pure Genius (Universal Channel) and the aforementioned Timeless (E4).
Additionally, Sony Pictures Television, who are shopping their slate of new shows at MIPCOM, have secured deals for Kevin Can Wait with a number of other international buyers including iQiy in China; Comedy Central in India, TVNZ 2 in New Zealand, OSN for the Middle East and Turner for 20 countries across Latin America. “Kevin James is a huge talent and loved by audiences around the world”, said Sony’s Keith LeGoy. “The series had a fantastic start in the US and we’re confident that more international buyers will fall for Kevin’s many charms”.
