Game Of Thrones star Rose Leslie has joined the cast of CBS All Access’ untitled The Good Wife spin-off in a series regular role, TVWise has learned.
Leslie, best known for playing Wildling Ygritte in the HBO fantasy series, will play Maia, Diane Lockhart’s goddaughter who joins her firm just after passing the bar, and is a key part of Diane’s plan for the future.
She is only the fourth cast member to be confirmed for the spin off; joining Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo and Sarah Steele, who are reprising their roles as Diane Lockhart, Lucca Quinn and Marissa Gold, respectively.
“We’re thrilled to have Rose on board,” said executive producers Robert and Michelle King. “We needed a young actress who could hold her own with Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, and Rose is perfect. She’s real, she’s strong and she can play comedy. If we designed an actress from the ground up, we couldn’t have done better.”
As TVWise previously reported, the spin-off will pick up one year after the events seen in the series finale of The Good Wife, after an enormous financial scam has destroyed the reputation of a young lawyer, Maia (Leslie), while simultaneously wiping out her mentor Diane Lockhart’s savings. Forced out of Lockhart & Lee, they join Lucca Quinn at one of Chicago’s pre-eminent law firms.
The pilot script was penned by Phil Alden Robinson and Robert & Michelle King. CBS Television Studios is producing in association with Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions, with the Kings, Ridley Scott, David Zucker, Liz Glotzer, Brooke Kennedy and Alison Cross serving as executive producers. The ten episode first season is currently scheduled for a February 2017 premiere on streaming service CBS All Access in the United States. CBS Studios International is handling global sales.
