Mykelti Williamson Joins Kiefer Sutherland's ABC Drama 'Designated Survivor' – TVWise

ABC is staging a 24 reunion.
Mykelti Williamson, who starred in the eighth season of the Fox counter-terrorism drama as the Director of CTU New York, has been tapped for a recurring role in Kiefer Sutherland’s new ABC series Designated Survivor.
Designated Survivor follows Tom Kirkman (Sutherland), the Secretary of Housing & Urban Development, who succeeds to the Presidency when everyone above him in the line of succession is killed during a catastrophic terrorist attack during the State of the Union.
Williamson will play Admiral Chernow, the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who quickly becomes one of President Kirkman’s most trusted advisers. Deadline first reported the news. This marks the latest role for the veteran actor, whose previous credits include: The Good Wife, Rizzoli & Isles, Justified, Hawaii Five-0, Underground and most recently Criminal Minds spin-off Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
He joins a cast that, in addition to Kiefer Sutherland, also includes Natascha McElhone, Maggie Q, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, Kal Penn, Tanner Buchanan and LaMonica Garrett. The series hails from David Guggenheim & Mark Gordon and is being produced by Entertainment One (eOne) & The Mark Gordon Company. The executive producers are David Guggenheim, Amy Harris, Simon Kinberg, Kiefer Sutherland, Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper.
Designated Survivor premieres next week on ABC in the United States. It has yet to be acquired by a UK broadcaster, however, TVWise previously revealed that Netflix UK, Channel 5 and Sky were circling; looking to secure a deal with international distributor Entertainment One (eOne).
