Georgina Campbell, who is currently starring in BBC One’s four-part drama One Of Us (pictured, right), has been tapped to play the female lead in Syfy’s Superman prequel pilot Krypton.
Krypton is set years before the era of Superman, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
Per Deadline, who broke the casting news, Campbell will play Lyta Zod, a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of General Alura Zod. She is a cadet in the caste and has been having a secret, forbidden romance with the as-yet uncast Seg-El.
This marks Campbell’s first major U.S. television role. The actress, repped by Independent Talent, has been very active here in the UK. Her numerous TV credits on this side of the pond include the aforementioned One Of Us, Flowers, Tripped, After Hours, The Ark, Ice Cream Girls and Death In Paradise. She is also set to star in the upcoming third season of ITV’s hit crime drama Broadchurch.
Krypton has been in the works at Syfy for the better part of two years and originally landing at the network back in December 2014 with a script commitment. After a lengthy development process, the network recently ordered a pilot, which was penned by David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg. Warner Horizon Television is producing alongside Scott Free Productions. The executive producers are Goyer, Goldberg and showrunner Damian Kindler. Colm McCarty is attached to direct.
