Fox has handed out a put pilot commitment to Black Lightning, an hour-long drama based on the DC Comics characters, which hails from super-producer Greg Berlanti.
Black Lightning follows Jefferson Pierce, who made his choice and hung up his suit and secret identity years ago. But with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
The hour-long drama is set up at Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions, which is housed out of Warner Bros. Television. Husband and wife duo Salim and Mara Brock Aki are penning the pilot script and will also serve as executive producers alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The project has been in the works for quite some time and was taken out to the network’s just last week, with Fox landing it in a competitive situation.
If it goes to series, this would be bring Berlanti’s total number of DC superhero dramas up to five. He is also the executive producer behind all of The CW’s DC shows, including Arrow, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, The Flash and CBS transplant Supergirl. Fox is already home to two WBTV produced DC series: Batman prequel Gotham, which is now going into its third season; and Lucifer, which kicks off its sophomore run later this month.
