Netflix has handed out an eight episode series order to Friends From College, a half comedy series, starring Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) and Fred Savage (The Grinder), which hails from Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco.
“Nick is a comedic mastermind. With Friends from College, he and Francesca have created a world that is both moving and very, very funny”, said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s Vice-President of Original Content. “We are thrilled to be working with them and this incredible cast, and look forward to audiences around the world laughing with and at these relatable characters”.
Friends From College follows a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.
In addition to Smulders and Savage, the cast lined up for the eight-episode comedy series also includes Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele, Keanu, Don’t Think Twice), Annie Parisse (Vinyl, The Following), Nat Faxon (Married, American Dad, Ben & Kate) and Jae Suh Park (The Mindy Project, The Big Short).
Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco co-created the series and will serve as writers and executive producers, while Stoller will also direct. Frends From College is bein produced in-house by Netflix Originals and will roll out globally in 2017 in all territories where the streaming service has a presence. Production will begin this fall in New York.
