Kyra Sedwick is returning to television.
The former star of TNT’s breakout original series The Closer has been set as the lead in drama project Ten Days In The Valley, from Skydance Television, which has landed at ABC with a ten episode straight-to-series order, TVWise has learned.
Ten Days In The Valley follows Jane Sadler (Kyra Sedgwick), an overworked television producer and single mother in the middle of a fractious separation. When her young daughter goes missing in the middle of the night, Jane’s world, and her controversial police series, implodes. Life imitates art: everything’s a mystery, everyone has a secret, and no one can be trusted.
Since exiting The Closer in 2012, Sedgwick has remained fairly active in television. She executive produced and helped steer the Jennifer Beals fronted Proof through development at TNT and has been recurring on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She also has a deal which allows her to reprise her role as Brenda Leigh Johnson on at least three episodes of The Closer spin-off Major Crimes. Sedgwick fielded multiple offers this past pilot season, but was very selective, waiting for the right project. “Playing Jane Sadler is exactly the deep and emotionally charged role I was searching for in a series”, she said.
“Ten Days in the Valley has everything: it’s a thriller, it’s a taut, exciting love story and it has the kind of character our audience loves, a strong, powerful woman who is also dangerously flawed”, added Channing Dungey, President of ABC Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to have the amazing Kyra Sedgwick play this compelling role.”
Gemini award winner Tassie Cameron, who co-created Canadian cop drama Rookie Blue, is penning the scripts and will also serve as the showrunner on the Skydance Television produced series. Kyra Sedgwick, Jill Littman, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross also serve as executive producers. Ten Days In The Valley is set to enter production next year and is eyed for a slot on either the network’s 2017 Summer or Fall schedule.
