BBC Two’s one-off comedy Motherland will premiere on Tuesday September 6th at 10pm, it has been announced.
Motherland explores the trials and traumas of middle-class motherhood, looking at the competitive and unromantic sides of parenting – not the cute and acceptable public face of motherhood. We meet the ‘Alpha Mums’ headed by Amanda who is very much the Queen Bee; At the other end of the spectrum we meet Liz who’s totally chaotic and feels the kids should enjoy free expression.
Part of the BBC’s Landmark Comedy Season, which celebrates the past sixty years of comedy, Motherland was penned by Graham Linehan, Sharon Horgan, Helen Linehan & Holly Walsh; and is set up as a co-production between Merman and Delightful Industries. The cast includes Lucy Punch, Diane Morgan & Paul Ready. Richard Boden is the producer, while, in addition to co-writing the script, Linehan also served as the director.
