Aisha Tyler (Friends, 24) has been promoted to series regular on the upcoming twelfth season of Criminal Minds, it was announced today by CBS President Glenn Geller during the network’s executive panel at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.
In addition to becoming a fully-fledged regular on Criminal Minds, Tyler will also continue to serve as a co-host on the network’s daytime talker The Talk. Tyler joined Criminal Minds last season in a recurring role as Dr Tara Lewis, an FBI Special Agent who is drafted into the Behavioral Analysis Unit following the departure of Kate Callahan (Jennifer Love Hewitt).
This promotion for Tyler comes mere weeks after the network confirmed that she would be back and revealed that former cast member Paget Brewster would be reprising the role of FBI Special Agent Emily Prentiss in numerous episodes this season. As TVWise previously reported, CSI: Miami star Adam Rodriguez also recently joined the cast of the lone-running CBS procedural as a regular, playing the part of a senior FBI Special Agent who is recruited into the Behavioral Analysis Unit.
CBS has now formally locked down the cast for next season. Both Tyler and Rodriguez join a returning cast that includes Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A. J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness and Joe Mantegna. Shemar Moore exited the series last season and will not be back. Criminal Minds is produced by ABC Studios & CBS Television Studios. The executive producers are Mark Gordon, Erica Messer and Breen Frazier.
