ITV2 has renewed unscripted hit Ibiza Weekender for an extended sixth season, TVWise has learned. Ten episodes have been ordered for the new season, up from the eight episodes that comprised season five.
Ibiza Weekender explores the comings and goings at a single hotel and follows the fortunes of new groups of guests as they soak up the sun, look for romance and plunge into the island way of life. Set against the backdrop of Europe’s biggest party island, expect high jinks, outrageous nights out and dramas around the clock.
The show’s fifth season, and the second to be set in Ibiza, was a ratings winner for ITV2; growing its audience in a number of demographics. In the coveted 16-34 demo, which ITV2 specifically targets, Ibiza Weekender grew by 11% and now boasts a strong 16-34 profile of 53%. The series also grew its 16-24 share by 12%.
“For young Brits looking for a holiday abroad, you can’t beat Ibiza, and for ITV2 viewers looking for a show packed full of fun, laughs and cheeky drama you can’t beat Ibiza Weekender”, said ITV Commissioning Executive Satmohan Panesar, who ordered the sixth season.
The Weekender brand hails from independent production company Twofour and GroupM Entertainment. The fixed-rig series was originally set in Magaluf for its first three seasons, at which time it was known as Magaluf Weekender, before relocating to Ibiza for season four. The executive producers are Gyles Neville for Twofour and Melanie Darlaston from GroupM Entertainment. The sixth season is expected to air in 2017.
“It’s great to be back with the Weekender brand for an extended summer of fun. Not only is the rig setup perfect for unearthing those true seminal holiday moments but also for revealing the humour and lightness of great characters as we welcome back some familiar faces along with some new ones too.”
