The better part of six months after it was taken out to the networks, Chuck Lorre’s pot dispensary comedy Disjointed has landed at Netflix with a twenty episode straight-to series order.
Additionally, Harry’s Law and American Horror Story star Kathy Bates has boarded the project and will play the lead role.
Disjointed is described as workplace comedy that follows a lifelong advocate for legalization, played by Kathy Bates, who’s finally living her dream as the owner of an L.A.–area cannabis dispensary. Joining her are three budtenders, her twenty-something son and a deeply troubled security guard. All of them are more or less constantly high.
Chuck Lorre, the veteran produce behind such comedy hits as The Big Bang Theory and Two And A Half Men, co-created Disjointed alongside The Daily Show‘s David Javerbaum. Lorre’s Shingle Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television are producing. In addition to creating Disjointed, Chuck Lorre and David Javerbaum also serve as writers and executive producers on the comedy series.
This pot dispensary comedy has been in the works for months with word leaking out from Warner Bros. Television, where Chuck Lorre Productions are based, that they were preparing to shop the project to the networks in January. At the time, CBS was considered an unlikely destination, despite their close and warm relationship with Lorre, owing to the subject matter. Netflix soon emerged as the preferred partner and offered the largest commitment of any other bidder.
With the series pick up, Chuck Lorre will now have three comedy series on air, joining the likes of The Big Bang Theory and Mom on CBS. Meanwhile for Netflix, Disjointed continues their aggressive push into original comedy that started with the likes of Grace & Frankie and has since spawned such comedy series as Unbreakably Kimmy Schmidt, Flaked, The Ranch, Wet Hot American Summer, Fuller House and Master Of None.
