Netflix is re-teaming with Jenji Kohan for their next series.
The streaming giant has handed out a straight-to-series order to GLOW, a 1980s set wrestling comedy which hails from the Orange Is The New Black creator, TVWise has learned.
Inspired the syndicated TV series about women’s wrestling, GLOW (AKA Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling) is set in Los Angeles in the 1980s and will tell the fictionalized story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.
The comedy series, which has received an order for ten episodes, was created by Homeland scribe Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch (Orange Is The New Black), who will executive produce and serve as co-showrunners. Jenji Kohan – whose numerous credits include Orange Is The New Black, Weeds and Gilmore Girls – will also serve as an executive producer.
GLOW is the latest addition to Netflix’s diverse comedy slate as the streamer continue its aggressive push into this area, after initially making its name in drama with efforts such as House Of Cards and Narcos. Other comedy series in the works at Netflix include Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Santa Clarita Diet and Crazy Face; as well as new seasons of Grace & Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Fuller House and The Ranch.
