Mark Bonnar (Line Of Duty, Casualty) is joining the cast of ITV’s cold case drama series Unforgotten for its second season, TVWise has learned.
While there are no specifics on the character he will be playing, Bonnar joins returning cast members Nicola Walker (Spooks) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars). Bonnar is coming off of starring roles in Apple Trey Yard and the Porridge reboot, both for the BBC. He is represented by Hatton McEwan Penford.
From Chris Lang, Unforgotten follows DCI Cassie Stuart (Walker) and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan (Bhaskar) as they work a cold-case and the ensuing fall-out of the investigation. Each season focuses on a new case, with season 1 exploring the death of boy who died in 1976.
In season two, the perfectly preserved remains of a middle aged man are found in a sealed suitcase in the silt of the River Lea in northeast London. The man is identified as David Walker who disappeared in 1990 and left behind a wife, who has since remarried, and her son who is now in his early 30s. Across six episodes, Cassie and Sunny encounter four unconnected people who they suspect are linked in some way to the victim.
In addition to Mark Bonnar, other cast additions include Rosie Cavaliero (Prey), Lorraine Ashbourne (Jericho), Badria Timimi (EastEnders), Charlie Condou (Casualty), Holly Aird (Page Eight), Nigel Lindsay (You, Me And The Apocalypse), Bryony Hannah (Call The Midwife), Peter Egan (Doctor Who), Wendy Craig (Death In Paradise). Jassa Ahluwalia (Peaky Blinders) is also set to reprise his role as Cassie’s son Adam.
“I am so excited to be making a second season of Unforgotten. Once again we have managed to assemble a jaw dropping cast, alongside a hugely talented production team, and I cannot wait to see the stories I have created, start to come to life on screen”, series creator Chris Lang said in a statement.
Unforgotten is produced by Mainstreet Pictures, the indie set up by for ITV drama executive Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes. Tim Bradly is back as the series producer, while season one helmer Andy Wilson is also returning to direct. The executive producers are Laura Mackie, Sally Haynes and Chris Lang. Production is now underway for a 2017 premiere. BBC Worldwide will handle global distribution.
“We were delighted at the response to Unforgotten and it’s fantastic to be bringing back Cassie and Sunny to investigate a different historical murder”, added executive producer Sally Haynes on behalf of Mainstreet Pictures. “As with the first series Chris has written a complex, emotional and surprising story that challenges our heroes as they uncover long hidden secrets in the lives of the suspects”.
