BBC One’s Death In Paradise is coming a little closer to home. The hit Carribean set murder mystery is set to shoot a two-part special from the upcoming eight episode sixth season in the UK, TVWise has learned.
The two-part special sees the Honoré Police team head to London for the first time to solve one of the island’s most complex murder cases. This marks the first time the series has filmed any scenes in the UK, with the past five seasons having been shot exclusively on the French-Caribbean island of Guadeloupe.
“We are very excited to be bringing Death In Paradise to London for the very first time”, said executive producer Tim Key. “Humphrey has always been a fish out of water in Saint Marie, adjusting to the island’s ways and customs, but for the scenes set in London, the roles are reversed as he is back in his hometown, giving an opportunity to explore the characters that viewers know and love against a new backdrop.”
Season six will also see some cast changes, with Sally Bretton, who guest starred last season as DI Humphrey’s love interest Martha Lloyd, having been promoted to series regular. Her character will have a prominent role in the new season as sparks continue to fly between her and DI Goodman.
“I am delighted that I have been given the chance to reprise my role as Martha and join the incredible Death In Paradise cast and crew again”, Sally Bretton said in a statement. “My character is a joy to play and I can’t wait for the viewers to see how her story unfolds.”
Bretton joins a returning regular cast that includes Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers, Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Josephine Jobert as DS Florence Cassell and Tobi Bakare as Officer JP Hooper.
Guest stars lined up for season six include Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted, After Hours), Douglas Hodge (The Night Manager), Natasha Little (Thirteen), Adrian Rawlins (Dickensian), Monica Dolan (W1A), Ramon Tikaram (Happy Valley), Emily Taffee (War And Peace), Gary Beadle (Eastenders), Fiona Allen (Waterloo Road), Kerry Fox (Glue), Kemi-Bo Jacobs (Thirteen) and Mark Powley (Birds Of A Feather).
Death In Paradise was created by Robert Thorogood and follows DI Humphrey Goodman and his local police team as they investigate crimes on the tropical island of Saint Marie. Red Planet Pictures are producing, with the support of the region of Guadeloupe. The executive producers are Tony Jordan and Tim Key for Red Planet Pictures and Elizabeth Kilgarriff for the BBC. Season six is now in production for a 2017 premiere on BBC One.
