Scream Queens star Niecy Nash has landed the lead role in TNT’s hour-long dramedy pilot Claws, which hails from Rashida Jones, Will McCormack and their production company Le Train Train, TVWise has learned.
Claws is set in a Southern Florida nail salon and follows the lives of five diverse and treacherous Florida manicurists. It soon becomes clear there is a lot more going on at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon than silk wraps and pedicures.
Niecy Nash will play Desna Simms, the owner of the salon. This marks the latest role for the prolific comedy actress and comes mere days after Fox passed on her comedy pilot The Enforcers. Her other recent credits include Fox’s Scream Queens, TV Land’s The Soul Man and HBO’s short-lived remake of the hit BBC comedy Getting On.
Claws was originally set up at HBO as a half-hour comedy and was ultimately re-developed as an hour-long entry after the premium cabler passed, with TNT ordering a pilot back in March. The script was penned Eliot Laurence and is being produced by Le Train Train, Warner Horizon Television and TNT Originals. Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are executive producing.
If it goes to series, Claws will become the second project from Le Train Train to land at one of Turner’s entertainment networks, with the company’s other major effort being Angie Tribeca; which returns to TBS for a second season next month.
