Channel 4 owned digi-net E4 has given the green-light to Carjackers, a half-hour vehicle “make-over” series which hails from the Sony Pictures Television owned indie Electric Ray, TVWise has learned.
Carjackers features The Carjackers, a team of Britain’s best mechanics and modifiers, who in each episode will be tasked with secretly transforming run-of-the-mill vehicles into head-turning character cars in only a matter of days. If the owner doesn’t like the new look of the car, the Carjackers will have to undo their work and return the vehicle to its original state.
The series is set up at SPT’s Electric Ray, with the indie’s co-founders Karl Warner and Meredith Chambers on-board to executive produce. E4 has ordered twenty episodes for the show’s first season, which is expected to premiere later this year.
“I’m looking forward to the Carjackers delighting both our E4 audience and some unsuspecting car owners with their unique set of skills”, said Channel 4’s Head of Formats Dom Bird, who commissioned the series alongside Formats Commissioning Editor Jilly Pearce. “After all, who wouldn’t want their boring old car turned into a giant hot dog?”
While Electric Ray co-founder and executive producer Karl Warner added: “With jaw-dropping makeovers and a larger than life cast, Carjackers will be a comedy show first and a car show second – it’s ‘changing vrooms’ for the E4 generation.”
