Sky1’s three-part family drama Fungus The Bogeyman will premiere on Sunday December 27th at 6pm, it has been announced.
Based on the classic children’s book by Raymond Briggs, Fungus The Bogeyman follows the titular character, played by Timothy Spall, as he menaces and frightens those on the surface (known as dry-cleaners) as Bogeymen and have always done. Fungus and his son Mould must journey through the maze of life on the surface, while also discovering the highs and lows of their father and son relationship.
In addition to Timothy Spall, the cast also includes Victoria Wood (The Borrowers) as Eve, an earthy, eccentric “Dry Cleaner” living in the human inhabited town of Daventry; Marc Warren (The Musketeers) as Daryl Snow, a “dry-cleaner” who is unemployed and a little emasculated; Keeley Hawes (Line Of Duty) as Wendy Snow, Daryl’s wife; Joanna Scanlan (The Thick Of It) as Mildrew, Fungus’ beloved wife; and Paul Kaye (Game Of Thrones) as the ‘bogeyhunter’.
Sky’s adaptation will consist of three hour-long episodes, which are being penned by Tom MacRae. Fungus The Bogeyman is set up at Imaginarium Studios and Double Negative’s TV division DNeg TV. Ben Evans is set as the producer, while Chloe Sizer and Jonathan Cavendish are executive producing. The Hour and Downton Abbey helmer Catherine Morshead is the director. Sky Vision is handling global sales.
