The one-off Victorian era Sherlock special will premiere on BBC One on New Year’s Day (Friday January 1st) at 9pm, it has been announced.
Based on the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock was developed for television by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and is described as a modern take on the Holmes stories. The drama series focusses on Holmes and Watson as they consult on cases, usually for the Metropolitan Police Service. Sherlock is produced by Hartswood Films and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Mark Gatiss, Rupert Graves, Una Stubbs and Amanda Abbington.
The one-off special, titled The Abominable Bride, is set in 1895 and follows Sherlock Holmes, John Watson and their friends who are called in when the ghost of Mrs Ricoletti, who committed suicide earlier in the day, appears to be prowling the streets of London with an unslakeable thirst for revenge. Holmes and Watson must use all their cunning to combat an enemy seemingly from beyond the grave and the final, shocking truth about… the Abominable Bride!
