Vimeo is officially moving into original programming.
After testing the waters with a number of projects over the past couple of years, the video-on-demand platform is upping their level of investment and has unveiled their first ever slate of original programming.
Said slate includes three programmes: the second season of The Outs; Darby Forever, a short film from Saturday Night Live alum Aidy Bryant; and Bianca Del Rio’s Rolodex of Hate Comedy Special: Live from Austin.
“This new slate of Vimeo Originals exemplifies the fresh, unique voices of Vimeo creators who are propelling online storytelling and entertainment to new levels of quality,“ said Kerry Trainor, CEO, Vimeo. “Vimeo empowers today’s brightest talent to develop their best work, with total creative freedom, and bring it directly to a worldwide audience on Vimeo with no interruptive advertising.”
The Outs returns for its second season this Winter. Three years have passed since the first season of The Outs concluded. In that time Jack (Hunter Canning), Oona (Sasha Winters) and Mitchell (Adam Goldman) are a little older, a little more tired, and the tiniest bit closer to figuring out what they want. Figuring out how to get it, though… that’s another story. The critically acclaimed web series is executive produced by Vaughn Schoonmaker and Adam Goldman.
Vimeo’s first original short film, Darby Forever follows Darby, a shop-girl at “Bobbins & Notions,” a fabric store in a nameless town that is both ordinary and bizarre. The customers she encounters in the shop spark colorful daydreams as Darby looks for independence and maybe finds love with a deliveryman. The short film was written by Aidy Bryant, who also leads the cast as Darby. Other cast members include Luka Jones, Retta and Natasha Lyonne. The executive producers are Bryant and Jason Carden, while Oz Rodriguez is the director.
Set to air in December, Bianca Del Rio’s Rolodex of Hate Comedy Special: Live from Austin is Vimeo’s first ever stand up special featuring Bianca Del Rio, season 6 winner of Rupaul’s Drag Race. Bianca Del Rio’s Rolodex of Hate Comedy Special: Live From Austin, is executive produced by Roy Haylock (aka Bianca Del Rio), David Charpentier and Jacob Slane for Producer Entertainment.
