The CW has ordered five additional scripts for both iZombie and freshman drama Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The order is a big sign of confidence in both show’s especially as iZombie doesn’t kick off its 13 episode second season until tomorrow and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend doesn’t premiere until October 12th.
iZombie follows Liv, a med-student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the Coroner’s Office in order to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat so that she can maintain her humanity. With every brain she eats, she inherits the corpse’s memories. In order to quiet the voices in her head she teams with a police detective and her boss to solve homicide cases. The drama is produced by Warner Bros. Television and stars Rose McIver, Malcolm Goodwin, Rahul Kohli, Robert Buckley and David Anders.
Originally developed for Showtime as a half-hour series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is an hour-long dramedy which stars Rebecca Bloom as a successful, driven, and possibly crazy young woman who impulsively gives up everything – her partnership at a prestigious law firm and her upscale apartment in Manhattan – in a desperate attempt to find love and happiness in that exotic hotbed of romance and adventure: West Covina, California. CBS Television Studios is producing, with Bloom, Aline Brosh McKenna and Marc Wenn executive producing.
iZombie and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend are the latest shows to score orders for additional scripts so far this season. Previously, NBC handed out an order for nine additional scripts for breakout hit thriller series Blindspot, starring Sullivan Stapleton and Jaimie Alexander. Notably, no new series have earned a back-nine order yet, but a number of such orders are expected to come down in the next couple of weeks.
