Sky Living has closed separate deals with CBS Studios International and Disney Media Distribution to acquire the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to Limitless and The Catch, respectively. Additionally, after months of rumours, the Sky owned channel has also confirmed TVWise’s scoop that they have acquired the NBC thriller Blindspot from WBITD.
“At Sky Living, we know how passionate our customers are about our shows because they tell us how much they love them”, said Julia Barry, Director of Sky Living. “So we’re giving them even more. With these brilliant new series, we’re adding some of the most talked about, ‘can’t-look-away’ TV to our already fantastic line-up of the biggest US network hits, really cementing Sky Living’s reputation as the home of the most engrossing, addictive drama out there.”
Created by Martin Gero, Blindspot follows a woman covered in tattoos who wakes up naked in Times Square, suffering from amnesia. Her case catches the attention of the FBI, which soon discovers that the tattoos are in fact a roadmap that leads them to a large conspiracy. The drama is produced by Warner Bros. Television and stars Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Audrey Esparza, Rob Brown, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Ukweli Roach and Ashley Johnson. The executive producers are Greg Berlanti, Martin Gero, Sarah Schechter and Mark Pellington.
Based on the feature film of the same name, Limitless follows Brian Finch as he discovers the power of the mysterious drug NZT, and is coerced into using his newfound drug-enhanced abilities to solve weekly cases for the FBI. The drama series hails from CBS Television Studios and stars Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, Hill Harper and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Bradley Cooper also appears in a recurring role.
From Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Jennifer Schuur, The Catch is a new thriller centered on the strong, successful Alice Martin (Mireille Enos). She’s a fraud investigator who’s about to be the victim of fraud by her fiancé. Between her cases, she is determined to find him before it ruins her career. The drama series is produced by Shondaland & ABC Studios and stars Mireille Enos, Peter Krause, Sonya Walger, Alimi Ballard, Jay Hayden, Jacky Ido, Rose Rollins and Elvy Yost.
These three acquisitions, which have been in the works since the LA Screenings, represent the most significant deals for Sky Living since Sky announced that the channel would be abandoning its push into originals and would instead focus solely U.S. acquisitions. Blindspot, Limitless and The Catch join a line-up of first run U.S. dramas on Living that also includes Criminal Minds, The Blacklist, Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and Bones.
Notably, this is only the second round of deals that Sky has agreed for any of their channels since the LA Screenings. Previously, Sky1 moved very quickly to secure ABC’s new take on The Muppets in a rich multi-season deal with international distributor Disney Media Distribution. The company’s flagship channel is also understood to be in talks with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution to acquire the six episode The X-Files revival.
