Mark Addy (Atlantis) and Anna Chancellor have been tapped for co-starring roles opposite series leads Mark Strepan (The Mill) and Ben Tavassoli (No Offence) in the seven episode contemporary cop drama from Foyle’s War creator Anthony Horowitz, TVWise has learned.

New Blood tells the story of two young police investigators, Stefan (Strepan) and Rash (Tavassoli), who work for two different law enforcement divisions and are suddenly brought together by two seemingly unrelated cases. They soon find themselves coming up against the uber rich and powerful who hide behind legitimate facades and are guarded by lawyers.

Mark Addy will play DS Derek Sands, an experienced detective who has found himself left behind by younger and more ambitious officers and his professional and personal bitterness causes problems for Rash who’s trying to learn from him. “There’s nothing better than an Anthony Horowitz crime story, and New Blood had me hooked from the first read of the script”, Addy said. “I’m looking forward to playing the rough and cynical character of Derek Sands.”

Anna Chancellor has been cast as Eleanor Davies, the Director of the Serious Fraud Office and Stefan’s overall boss. Clever, tough, pragmatic and aware that her job is an impossible one, she relishes her work but her personal life is not a happy one. “It’s brilliant to be part of New Blood and to be playing the fierce Eleanor”, she said. “I’ve long admired Anthony Horowitz’s work and look forward to bringing his modern and exciting script to screen.”
