ITV Orders Three-Part Colin Howell Drama 'The Secret', James Nesbitt & Genevieve O’Reilly To Star – TVWise

ITV has given the green-light to The Secret, a three-part drama about killer dentist Colin Howell starring James Nesbitt (Babylon) and Genevieve O’Reilly (The Honourable Woman) which hails from Hat Trick Productions and Stuart Urban, TVWise has learned.
The Secret Tells the true story of Colin Howell and Hazel Buchanan, who met at their local Baptist Church in Coleraine, Northern Ireland and embark upon a passionate and destructive affair, which climaxes in an elaborate plot to kill both their partners, Lesley and Trevor.
James Nesbitt will play Colin Howell, a respectable dentist and pillar of the community; while Genevieve O’Reilly takes on the role of Sunday school teacher Hazel Buchanan. Nesbitt has been busy of late with lead roles on Babylon, the BBC One/Starz co-production The Missing and Sky1’s Stan Lee series Lucky Man; while O’Reilly’s previous credits include Episodes, Banished and Glitch.
“The Secret is a powerful true life crime story,” said ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November, who commissioned the three-part drama alongside ITV’s Controller of Drama Victoria Fea. “The production team at Hat Trick led by Mark Redhead has a long held reputation for producing quality drama focusing on human frailties and tragedy.”
The three-parter is based on the book by journalist Deric Henderson, with BAFTA winner Stuart Urban penning the scripts for the TV adaptation. Hat Trick Productions is producing The Secret, which is receiving funding from Northern Ireland Screen. Jonathan Curling is the series producer, while Prey helmer Nick Murphy has come on-board to direct. Hat Trick Productions’ Head of Drama Mark Redhead is the executive producer. Production on The Secret gets underway in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in November.
