Some 24 hours after Fox handed out a back-nine order to Rob Lowe comedy The Grinder, the network has done the same with time-slot companion Grandfathered, picking it up for a full 22 episode season.
Grandfathered serves as the opening series for Fox’s Tuesday night comedy block, leading into The Grinder. Both series have boosted the performance of the network’s Tuesday night 8-9pm slot by some 70%, compared to last year’s reality flop Utopia. Granfathered performs marginally better than The Grinder and has been averaging a 2.1 rating in the demo in L7 delivery.
From The Office scribe Danny Chun, Grandfathered sees John Stamos playing a version of himself: a longtime bachelor whose life is upended after he learns he’s a father and grandfather. The comedy is produced by ABC Studios & 20th Century Fox Television and stars John Stamos, Josh Peck, Paget Brewster, Christina Milian, Kelly Jenrette and Ravi Patel. Danny Chun and The Neighbors and Galavant creator Dan Fogelman executive produce.
“Grandfathered had the Herculean task of self-starting on what is an incredibly competitive Tuesday night, and the series has proven itself up to the challenge. Since the very beginning, we knew this show would be that rare commodity – a genuinely original family comedy,” said David Madden, President of Fox Entertainment. “The remarkable John Stamos, Josh Peck, Paget Brewster and the entire cast have sparkling chemistry, and the show’s creative team has delivered fantastic scripts that keep these great characters moving. We know fans are going to love the surprises in store for the rest of the season.”
