Olivia Taylor Dudley Joins Syfy's 'The Magicians' As Series Regular – TVWise

In what is her first major television role following stints on CSI: Miami and The Comedians, Olivia Taylor Dudley has joined the cast of Syfy’s 13 episode Lev Grossman adaptation The Magicians as a series regular, TVWise has learned.
The Magicians follows Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student who enrolls in Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and poses grave danger to humanity.
Olivia Taylor Dudley will play Alice, an intensely shy and delicately lovely young woman. Born of a magical but neglectful family, Alice is an outcast among her fellow students at Brakebills, but nonetheless emerges as the most brilliant magical practitioner in her class. She joins a main cast that also includes Jason Ralph, Sosie Bacon, Stella Maeve, Hale Appleman, Arjun Gupta and Summer Bishil.
In addition, The Magicians has added a number of actors in guest starring roles, with Rick Worthy (The Vampire Diaries), Anne Dudek (Covert Affairs), Jade Tailor (Murder In The First) and Esmé Bianco (Game Of Thrones) set to recur across the 13 episode freshman season.
Ricky Worthy has been cast as Dean Fogg, the formidable Dean of Brakebills; Anne Dudek as Professor Sunderland, a smart, charmingly scatterbrained woman dedicated to teaching Brakebills students how to hone their magical skills; Jade Tailor as Kady, a tough, rebellious and sexy Brakebills student who attracts Penny’s attention in and out of the classroom; and Esmé Bianco as Eliza, a paramedic who has a hand in initiating Quentin’s journey into real magic
Based on the Lev Grossman novel of the same name, The Magicians was developed for television by John McNamara and Supernatural scribe Sera Gamble. The duo penned the pilot script and will also serve as executive producers alongside Groundswell Productions’ Michael London and Janice Williams. Universal Cable Productions is producing. Production on the series’ 13 episode order is now underway in Vancouver for a 2016 premiere.
