CBS is re-teaming with NCIS star Mark Harmon for a new drama series.
The network has handed out a script commitment to The Red Circle, a Navy Seals drama from Harmon which is based on Brandon Webb and John David Mann’s book The Red Circle: My Life In The Navy SEAL Sniper Corps And How I Trained America’s Deadliest Marksmen.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the TV series will be based on Webb’s real life experiences and follow an experienced but newly promoted Navy SEAL who has joined a troubled platoon. The Red Circle is set up at CBS’ sister studio CBS Television Studios, where Mark Harmon’s production company Wings Productions is based. Harmon will executive produce, while Todd Robinson is attached to pen the script.
Mark Harmon has been active on the development side of the business since his Wings Productions inked a production deal with CBS Television Studios several years ago. Since that point, he has helped develop (as executive producer) numerous projects for the studio, including NCIS spin-off NCIS: New Orleans, and a Young William Shakespeare drama for The CW. He also serves as an executive producer on NCIS.
The Red Circle is the latest scripted buy for CBS, who have been fairly cautious so far this development cycle. It comes less than a week after the network handed out a hefty pilot production commitment to a TV project based on the feature film Training Day, which hails from Warner Bros. Television, Jerry Bruckheimer and Antoine Fuqua.
