Spin City and Political Animals star Carla Gugino has signed on for a starring role in Showtime’s half-hour comedy series Roadies, which hails from Cameron Crowe, Winnie Holzman And J.J. Abrams.
Penned and directed by Crowe, Roadies follows a hot-ticket tour, but with a simple twist: the band is in the background and the roadies take the spotlight. The comedy takes “an inside look” at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of characters who live for music and the de facto family they’ve formed along the way.
Gugino will play the band’s production manager Shelli, who is described a world-class multi-tasker, passionate music fan and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager. Carla Gugino replaces Christina Hendricks, who was originally set to play the part before it was reconceived by the producers. The changes made to the character led to Hendricks exit from Roadies in July, freeing her up to take a lead role in SundanceTV’s Hap And Leonard.
She joins a cast that also includes Luke Wilson (Old School), Imogen Poots (The Look Of Love), Rafe Spall (One Day), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) and Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles). The pilot is being produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions. Bryan Burke, Cameron Crowe, Winnie Holzman And J.J. Abrams executive produce.
