MTV’s short-lived cyber stalker drama Eye Candy is coming to the UK.
Channel 5 has acquired the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to the ten episode series starring for their digi-net 5*, TVWise has learned. Eye Candy will premiere on 5* in September.
Eye Candy tells the story of Lindy, who is persuaded by her roommate to try online dating. Before long she begins to suspect that one of her suitors is a deadly cyber stalker. When the local cyber-crimes unit uncovers a potential serial killer in Manhattan, all signs point to this mysterious stalker. Teaming up with the cyber unit and some hacker friends, Lindy leads the charge to solve these murders while unleashing her own style of justice on the streets of New York City.
The drama series is based on the novel of the same name by R.L. Stine and was developed for television by Christian Taylor. Eye Candy is produced by Blumhouse Productions and stars Victoria Justice as Lindy, Casey Deidrick as Tommy, Kiersey Clemons as Sophia, John Garet Stoker as Connor and Harvey Guillen as George. The executive producers are Christian Taylor, Jason Blum and Catherine Hardwicke.
This deal for Eye Candy is the latest example of Channel 5 acquiring of series commissioned by a Viacom owned network in the U.S. since C5 joined the Viacom family last year. It follows the recent deal for the Spike miniseries Tut, which premiered on Channel 5 earlier this month before subsequently getting a repeat window on Spike UK. This also marks the most significant acquisition for 5* since the channel picked up the fourth season of The Walking Dead last year.
