Rhys Darby, meet Mulder and Scully. The How To Be A Gentleman and Flight Of The Conchords star has joined the cast of Fox’s six episode The X-Files revival in a guest-starring role, TVWise has confirmed.
Darby, who created and starred in comedy series Short Poppies (which airs on Netflix in the US and the UK), is only set to appear in one “Monster Of The Week” episode. He is expected to play a man Mulder suspects in a series of what appear to be animal attacks, The Wrap reports. He recently landed in Vancouver to begin shooting on the series.
The comedian and actor is the latest cast addition to The X-Files for this six episode revival. Other guest stars include Joel McHale as Tad O’Malley, the anchor of a popular conservative Internet news network who becomes an unlikely ally for Mulder; The American‘s star Annet Mahendru as Sveta, a victim of alien abduction; and iZombie alum Aliza Vellani in an as-yet undisclosed role.
The X-Files Revival is envisioned as a follow up to the original nine season series and both feature films, with David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi reprising their roles as Mulder, Scully and Walter Skinner, respectively. Series creator Chris Carter is shepherding the six episode revival, which he is also writing alongside Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong. The executive producers are Chris Carter and Glen Morgan, while Darin Morgan and James Wong are also attached to direct.
