A Song For Jenny (Alt)BBC One’s Emily Watson fronted 7/7 drama A Song For Jenny will premiere on Sunday July 5th at 9pm, it has been announced.

A Song For Jenny follows Julie Nicholson (Emily Watson) on that fateful summer day in July 2005 when four suicide bombers attacked London, killing 52 people and wounding a further 700. The drama recreates Julie’s actions and responses from the moment she learned of the terror attack, to the news that her daughter was missing and the confirmation that Jenny was amongst the dead. Sophie Dix, Gwilym Lee, Maxine Evans, Laurence Belcher, June Watson and Noah Jupe also star.

The 75 minute drama was written by Frank McGuiness and is based on Julie Nicholson’s book ‘A Song for Jenny: A Mother’s Story of Love and Loss’. A Song For Jenny is being produced by BBC Drama Production Northern Ireland, with Liz Trubridge serving as the producer and The Fall‘s Stephen Wright as the executive producer. Brian Percival directed the drama.

Speaking at the time the one-off drama was commissioned, BBC One Controller Charlotte Moore said: “Ten years on, A Song For Jenny will be a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy of the 7/7 London bombings. But it will also be a very personal story, exploring universal themes of grief, loss and forgiveness through one mother’s struggle to reconcile her feelings with her faith.”
