Katherine McNamara Set As Female Lead In ABC Family's 'Shadowhunters' – TVWise

ABC Family has found their Clary Fray.
Katherine McNamara (New Year’s Eve) has been tapped to play the female lead in Shadowhunters, the 10 episode Mortal Instruments adaptation which landed at the network back in April with a straight-to-series order.
Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray (McNamara), who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon.
McNamara, who is coming off of a guest starring role on ABC Family’s The Fosters, is the latest actor to board Shadowhunters since it got a green-light back in April. She joins previously announced cast members Dominic Sherwood (Mayday), Alberto Rosende (Blue Bloods) and Emeraude Toubia (Cosita Linda).
SHadowhunters is being produced by Constantin Film, who began developing a TV adaptation of Mortal Instruments after feature film The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones failed to perform at the box office. Ed Decter and McG are set to executive produce the series, which begins production later this month in Toronto, Canada for a 2016 premiere.
