The Wire creator David Simon’s new six-hour miniseries Show Me A Hero will premiere on HBO on Sunday August 16th at 9/8c, the network announced on Wednesday.
Based on the book by Lisa Belkin, Show Me A Hero explores notions of home, race and community through the lives of elected officials, bureaucrats, activists and ordinary citizens in Yonkers, New York. The young mayor is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town. His attempt to do so tears the entire city apart, paralyzes the municipal government and, ultimately, destroys the mayor and his political future.
The six-hour mini was penned by David Simon & William F. Zorzi and stars Oscar Isaac as the young mayor at the center of the miniseries. Other cast members include Catherine Keener, Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Bob Balaban and Jim Belushi. Paul Haggis is the director. David Simon, Nina K. Noble, Paul Haggis, Gail Mutrux and William F. Zorzi serve as executive producers.
