Like IFC, FOX is sticking with Will Ferrell’s Spoils franchise. FOX UK has snapped up the exclusive first run UK broadcast rights to The Spoils Before Dying, the six episode follow up to IFC’s The Spoils Of Babylon which is being toplined by Boardwalk Empire and The Wire star Michael Kenneth Williams.
The Spoils Before Dying will take viewers into the seedy underbelly of the 1950s jazz scene. The six episode mini-series follows down-and-out pianist Rock Banyon (Michael Kenneth Williams) who becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation when his lead singer and occasional lover is found violently murdered in a car with another man. With the death of two people hanging over his head, Rock has only 72 hours to clear his name or fry in the electric chair.
Led by Michael Kenneth Williams, the cast also includes Maya Rudolph, Haley Joel Osment, Kristen Wiig, Michael Sheen, Kate McKinnon, Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows, Lou Gossett Jr, Chris Parnell, Emily Ratajkowski, Steve Tom, Marc Evan Jackson, Jesse Williams, Andrew Daly, Chris Mulkey, Chin Han, Ted Levine, Jack Kilmer, Bérénice Marlohe and Patty Guggenheim.
A follow up to The Spoils Of Babylon, The Spoils Before Dying is being written by Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele and is set up at Will Ferrell’s Funny Or Die. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Matt Piedmont, Andrew Steele and Nate Young will serve as the executive producers. Co-writer and executive producer Matt Piedmont is also attached to direct.
This is something of a natural acquisition for FOX UK as the Fox International Channels (FIC) backed channel previously acquired and broadcast The Spoils Of Babylon back in 2014. The Spoils Before Dying is set to receive its UK premiere on FOX UK on Thursday July 23rd at 10:30pm – a mere two weeks after it debuts on IFC in the United States.
