The Castle cast is remaining in-tact. After difficult and prolonged negotiations, Stana Katic has reached a new deal with ABC and ABC Studios which will see her reprise her role as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett on the recently ordered eighth season of Castle.
She is the latest member of the main cast to ink a new deal for season eight, after fellow co-lead Nathan Fillion inked a new deal back in mid-April. I’m also assured that the rest of the cast, including Jon Huertas, Seamus Dever, Penny Johnson Jerald and Molly Quinn, will return next season – contrary to ridiculous reports that the network was considering re-casting some of these roles.
This may be a case of good-news/bad-news for fans of Castle. The frankly problematic contract talks here have led to renewed talk that the eight season of Castle will in fact be the show’s last. ABC Studios sources say the episode order its TBD and it’s worth noting network President Paul Lee denied that on a conference call with reporters that this would be the final season of Castle.
In addition to the talent issues, there has also been some changes occurring behind the scenes. At the same time Fillion inked new deal it was announced that David Amann was stepping down as executive producer and showrunner. He is being replaced by Castle veterans Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley, who will serve as co-showrunners on season eight.
Series creator Andrew Marlowe, who stepped down as showrunner ahead of season seven but remained involved in production, is also exiting the series. He announced his departure earlier today, alongside fellow executive producer Terri Miller.
