IFC has found the lead for The Spoils Before Dying.
Boardwalk Empire alum Michael Kenneth Williams, who is arguably best known for playing the role of Omar Little on HBO’s critically acclaimed series The Wire between 2002 and 2008, has signed on to star in the six episode follow up to IFC’s The Spoils Of Babylon, TVWise has learned.
The Spoils Before Dying will take viewers into the seedy underbelly of the 1950s jazz scene. The six episode mini-series follows down-and-out pianist Rock Banyon (Michael Kenneth Williams) who becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation when his lead singer and occasional lover is found violently murdered in a car with another man. With the death of two people hanging over his head, Rock has only 72 hours to clear his name or fry in the electric chair.
“We’ve been spoiled by the talent we’ve been able to attract to this franchise,” said Jennifer Caserta, President of IFC. “We know Michael will bring the same swagger of his previous larger-than-life roles to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore a dangerous world that was too hot for television.”
A follow up to The Spoils Of Babylon, the six episode mini is being written by Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele and is set up at Will Ferrell’s Funny Or Die. Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Matt Piedmont, Andrew Steele and Nate Young will serve as the executive producers. Co-writer and executive producer Matt Piedmont is also attached to direct.
