Meet the new Supergirl.
CBS and Warner Bros Television have released two first look images of Melissa Benoist in costume as the titular character in Supergirl, their new take on the DC Comics character which landed at the network with a series commitment back in September and is widely tipped for a spot on CBS’ 2015-2016 schedule.
Based on the DC character, Supergirl tells the story of Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin who escaped her homeplanet Krypton amidst its destruction. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
Melissa Benoist stars as Kara Zor-El and leads a cast which also includes Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness) as Jimmy Olsen, David Harewood (Homeland) as Hank Henshaw and Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Alex Danvers.
The drama project is being penned by Ali Adler and Greg Berlanti, who already has superhero series Arrow and The Flash at The CW. Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions are producing, with Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Sarah Schechter serving as executive producers.
